Career
It all started when…
I started off working in Tech by fluke. Having finished my A levels in Psychology and Sociology in a small town in the UK, I started my work experience aged 17 for Motorola, ensuring all their phones went through the correct approval process. Back in the 90’s this was big business, the mobile industry was about to blow up and lead us to where we are today with smart phones. Much to the amazement of my Mum, I got seconded to Chicago, Illinois, to work on the launch of a new software tool, aged 18, and it was there I became hooked with the possibilities of working in Tech and how you can change behaviour and customer use.
I worked for a few different organisations whilst in my hometown, Sony being one of them again in the product planning team, organising huge conferences showcasing our products on the commercial side. I inevitably ended up in London in the mid 00’s working at AOL which was my first entry into product development and working with Technology Teams, which were some of the happiest days of my working life. Learning so much, full of curiosity and delivering with gusto many products and projects. I had some brilliant mentors around me which I think were the key to my career progression.
In 2009 I joined The Guardian as a Product Manager, building The Digital Crosswords product as well as being involved in the Arts, Music and Culture streams. An exciting time, where print and tech were merging together, bringing the Editorial teams on a journey to think about Products and the service they provide for consumers.
In 2011 I moved more into Start-up territory and consulting. I would spend the next 7 years in this space, working with small businesses and GOV.UK* to help build products and services, advise and re-engineer many processes and organisation structures.
*GOV.UK - at the time were setting the Gold standard of how to incorporate a Digital by Default Design principle, which has been implemented in lots of organisations across the world
My next role was 3 years, spent at FinTech OFX as a Product Manager for UK & Europe. A brilliant opportunity to enter a new market - Europe, help grow the brand, shape the business, change a lot of the product offering to meet European customer needs, whilst working in a truly global company.
I have been involved in many passion projects over the years, being an advocate for Women in Tech, I hosted a panel of women for a community called Power of Women that celebrates women, in all their forms over International Women’s Day.
I have been a board member for a Tech Community space called The Geekery where I supported and advised on how to grow the business and brand, as well as volunteer with community festival projects like Geek Space (teaching children to code).
I now live in Perth, Western Australia, with my husband and 2 sons. I am a Product and Business Consultant working out of WA. I like to work on things that are really customer focused, am hugely passionate about working on social impact projects. I stay connected to my community through my Instagram account called @keepgoodco.here - here I share tips and tools about an array of topics from building products and services to confidence and visibility prompts.
